I’m not sure that I totally understand it, but there is something immensely satisfying to me about shopping at Costco.
Why do I feel instantly better having this in my pantry?

Girl2 has been sick a lot lately, and we finally nailed down the cause a few weeks ago. It would seem that she’s been having recurring bladder infections since, well, pretty much since she’s been toilet trained. It’s been hard to diagnose, though, since eliciting a urine sample from a tot is one of the more difficult tasks known to humankind. And doctors, not surprisingly, are not always amenable to prescribing antibiotics when the only evidence is a mother’s complaint of “bad-smelling pee”.
So it was only when I brought her in to the doctor’s office with a 3-day old fever that was just getting worse a few weeks ago that she was finally, after months (years?) able to pee in the little cup (and all over my hand, incidentally, but whatevs, that’s what sinks and soap are for, right?). A week on antibiotics knocked the bug out of her urinary tract, and she was healthy for a week. Then, a week ago Sunday, she wet her pants during her ski lesson. Helping her change out of her wet clothes, I realized that she must be sick again, because of that trademark smell. So back into the doctor’s office on Monday and – miracle! – she produced a sample! But sadly, it was an infected sample. So here we are again, on a different antibiotic this time. Let’s hope it works better. Read the rest of this entry »

Girl1, in fact, has a disease that has plagued my family for generations: schoolaroostayhomeis. I suffered from it intermittently myself as a child. One finds school to be a downer for one (or several) of many possible reasons, ergo: one does not wish to attend. One searches for excuses. One gets worked up. One feels sick. One cries, pitifully:
But Mommy, I really don’t WANT to go to school!” Read the rest of this entry »
