What I MIGHT Name Another Child. If I Had One. Which I Won’t. But Anyway…

Yup....me at 7 months (only!) with Girl2

7 mo. (only!) with Girl2

As a follow-up to yesterday’s post: What I DIDN’T Name My Children, I thought I’d give you a little list of what names would top the list if Hubster and I were to have another child. Which we won’t. (Hopefully). But anyway. Here you go:

NB – the list is heavily weighted towards girls’ names, and I think that’s because we so love the boy’s name that we picked out and never got to use that it would be a no-brainer. But really, we would have to be prepared for another girl, because hello: we’re batting two-for-two here. But it’s all moot anyway, since we’re not planning on another child. I know, shut up already, right?

GIRLS

Lucy:
I just sooooo love this name. It’s sweet, feminine, classic and NOT hard to spell, as evidently Girl2’s name is, despite the fact that I can name about 5 famous women with the same name, and there are islands and towns and a whole region in France with the same name. ALL. SPELLED. THE. SAME. WAY. It’s like this…imagine your child’s name was Carolyn. And everyone insisted on spelling it Caroline. It’s not even the same name, is it? One is Carol-lynn, and the other is Carol-line. It’s the same with Girl2’s name. And it drives me crazy. But anyway. I like the name Lucy. Plus, it means “light”, which is really nice.

Lily:
I know it’s probably too much a Harry Potter-derived name, but I can’t help loving Lily. I would still push for it.

Molly:
See Lily.

Elfgiva:
Okay, seriously I would NEVER, EVER, IN A MILLION YEARS actually name my child Elfgiva, but it has such a neat story. It was a quite common Anglo-Saxon girls’ name, and it means “gift of the elves”. Now how cool is that for a name? Except that it would be totally weird today. And cruel. And I just wouldn’t do that to my own kid. Maybe if we ever get another cat…

BOYS

William:
We would call him Will, but I still stick by our choice had Girl2 been a boy. I mean hey, you can never go wrong being named after Shakespeare, right?

James:
As I said in yesterday’s post: a classic.

What about you? What would you name a child (if you were to have one)?

I love all of your names (well, maybe not the Elf one :-) )

We’re done too, but off the top of my head, I would consider Sage for a girl and Rhys for a boy.

This just goes to show you how done I am…I don’t have a single name in my head. Done. Nothing.

    girl: Aubrey
    boy: Jackson
