On The Subject of Candy…

Just a random thing that made me go huh? the other day:

WTF MOMENT:
I searched for “canada” on the Simon & Schuster website, and the search returned this:

Canada is candy

Maybe it’s because I didn’t capitalize the c? Canada is a proper noun, after all. I should know better.

Anyway, I was searching for canada on the Simon & Schuster website because I reviewed Philippa Gregory’s novel The Other Boleyn Girl over on urbanmoms.ca (go! read it! I command you!). As I’m a Canadian gal and it’s a Canadian site, I wanted the readers to have a link to the Canadian publisher, for all kinds of reasons, not the least of which is that someone might accidentally buy this book from the American S&S website, and end up getting the American version (yes: one language different versions).

Here in the Great White North, we get the British versions of most British books (to wit: Harry Potter, which my friend Laura bought in the States and had to buy again here in Canada because “it just didn’t sound right”). Don’t ask me why publishers do this, but they do. Somehow I guess they think Americans either don’t know or can’t be bothered to find out that a “hob” is the same as a “stove”, “petrol” is “gas” or that–even worse–a “kerb” is a “curb”. I mean, come ON people.

And YES, I know I owe you Hallowe’en pictures. Trust me, I have them. I just haven’t had a moment yet to plug in the camera. Now when will they invent bluetooth for cameras? THAT would be useful! My camera is the single most common thing I plug into my laptop, even more than my iPod (for real).

See you tomorrow!
