Yup. It’s all about mind over matter.
This whole Sacred Heart Diet thing, it’s all about mental discipline. Physically, you can get by with a lot less food (both quantity and variety) than you think. But mentally. That’s a different story.
Have you ever noticed how much food advertising there is on TV in the evenings? I almost went over the edge when I saw an ad for this:

Does that seem as strange to you as it does to me? I’m dreaming about apples, rice and sauces. Not chips, or chocolate or cookies. Rice. Yow.
Anyway…here I am, ignoring said craving, waiting for Saturday when, in fact, all I can eat is brown rice and vegetables. I’ll let you know how great I’m feeling about rice around 5pm on Saturday!

So, I’ve decided to follow the Sacred Heart Diet for a week.
It’s not really a legitimate diet at all, actually. It’s totally a fad diet. Just about every hospital anywhere in the world with the words sacred or heart in its name has disavowed this diet.
But I needed to get some discipline back and this seemed like it might help. If you wanna know more about my reasons, or the diet itself, check out my last post on Losing It at urbanmoms.ca.
So…all day yesterday I ate nothing but fruit. Except bananas. You’re not allowed bananas on your fruit day. So of course, I really, really wanted bananas! And all day today, I ate nothing but vegetables.
Today was haaaard.
Because you don’t get to have a nice big cobb salad with ham, boiled egg, cheese and creamy dressing. Noooo…just vegetables. Plain, unadorned vegetables. And your “treat” is a potato.
Interestingly, though, if you take my food intake today and measure it up by Weight Watchers standards, I didn’t do too badly. Read the rest of this entry »
