You Know the Fossil? In My Butt?

Apr 8th, 2008 Posted in humour, the girls | 2 comments »

fossil pictureOkay, it was too funny not to share.

Girl1, in case you didn’t know it, loves dinosaurs. Loves, loves, loves dinosaurs. Ergo, we know a lot about fossils. And Girl2 equates bones with fossils.

So this morning she says, with her hand down the back of her pants:

“You know the fossil? In my butt? What’s it called?”

It took me a moment, but I was able to respond with a reasonably calm, “ahhh…that’s your tailbone.”

Which elicited a giggle. Evidently “tailbone” is funnier than “fossil in my butt”.

Why Am I Not Asleep?

I did call my husband at 9:30 to say I was feeling a cold coming on and was going to go straight to bed, not even washing the dishes (did I mention my dishwasher broke over a week ago and I won’t get my new one until at least April 10th???).

And then I opened my email. And went on the internet. And laughed myself silly in that all-knowing, superior, “well, you’ve finally joined us, have you?” way about my sister and her new iMac.

And I had just been thinking, “I need to write something new in my blog, but WHAT???” when I saw the pictures of her and her kids with the hilarious Photo Booth tool on her new Mac. And it reminded me of way back when my MacBook was all new and shiny (and still white; not grungy with finger slime). My kids and I took a fair few funny shots with the distortion filters, and I thought I’d post some of the winners here for your comedic enjoyment. Read the rest of this entry »

Oh, Darn. I Licked It. A Lot.

GIRL2: Mommy, I can’t get my cast wet, right?

ME: That’s right.

GIRL2: What will happen if I do?

ME: (thinking of a good excuse to keep her from dripping juice all over her cast) Well, it might get wet inside and get really itchy.

GIRL2: That’s okay, I can handle itchy.

ME: (time to up the ante) Well, it might also get infected!

GIRL2: Oh, darn. I licked it. A lot…

She licked it???

DEFINITELY Not a Boy…Right?

Mar 18th, 2008 Posted in motherhood, the girls | 8 comments »

Ahhh, the joys of parenting.

Meet Girl1. Loves dinosaurs, reptiles, Harry Potter and skateboarding. A self-proclaimed tomboy.

Meet Girl2. Loves pink, princesses, pink, Hannah Montana, pink, makeup…oh, and did I mention pink? A self-proclaimed Tommy Girl (I think she thinks it means the opposite of tomboy. As for where she even heard the phrase, I have no idea.)

Recently, Girl2 cut her own hair, so we took her to the salon to have it fixed. While there, Girl1 asked for a haircut. I obliged. She wanted it short and layered. And it looks really, really cute.

Except. Read the rest of this entry »
